Splice TV started out wanting finance for a single editing suite. Thanks to help from the East London Small Business Centre, within three years they came to own 19 suites, employ 22 staff, and have revenues of £1.3 million.

Splice TV Ltd - production company goes from strength to strength

Splice TV, a creative post-production company based in Shoreditch, was formed in 2002 by Damian Dolniak and Duncan Western, who met whilst working at EMAP where they worked in the television department, creating creative content for their expanding music television network.

During the early stage of their company, Splice came to East London Small Business Centre (ELSBC) for funding to support their first editing suite.

Splice worked hard and won many contracts until it had to expand, and by 2004 splice went from having one editing suite in a 500 sq ft leased premises with no employees to purchasing a 3300 sq ft freehold servicing 19 suites and employing 22 full time staff by 2007.

Duncan Western, Splice’s Creative Director says: “The support you get from Access to Finance compared to a bank is that you receive guidance, support and generally far more support than you would ever receive from a bank. Also you receive the support before, during and after a loan has been received which has been imperative to Splice generating from £250k to £1.3 million turnover in 3 years.”

Splice continued working with their business counsellor at East London Small Business Centre and signed on to the Access to Finance Programme in order to access funding for renovations and more editing suites in their building.

Through the Access to Finance Programme, Splice received a loan to cover the renovations of their state of the art post-production facility.

“ELSBC has an amazing team of ex-directors of companies who know how business works and can teach potential directors in days rather than years, while explaining how not to make expensive mistakes.. The Access to Finance programme is the best option for finance available to small and large businesses around the world, let alone London," adds Duncan.
