Sportpost - Sports website attracts investment in tough economic climate
Sportpost.com is an online sports content website with sophisticated technology that allows each individual user to 'tag' content which is of personal interest. Relevant news, views and videos will then be provided to users ensuring there is no longer the need to spend hours surfing with web in search of that elusive golden nugget of content. Founded by a team of sports enthusiasts - each with a track record of working within the industry - Sportpost joined the G2i programme to understand more about what it takes to entice the right investor. The business initially planned to operate publishing and events divisions alongside the website, however having taken guidance from the G2i team, management decided to focus on the online content proposition. This strategic focus proved attractive to investors and enabled the business to successfully complete a fund raising round with some high profile investors, including celebrity chef Raymond Blanc.
"Having taken on investment in 2009, we have been able to focus on improving our content offering, build the Sportpost brand and also explore new and innovative ways of monetising Sportpost.com. Whilst the economic climate remains tough, the business continues to go from strength to strength," said Peter Janes, the CEO of Sportpost.
