Health Journal Consumer choice within healthcare has been debated for a decade, but it is now on the cusp of becoming a reality. If Foundation and other Trusts are to be genuinely accountable to the public they serve, the public need to have access to reliable health information. However, given that the UK has a nationalised health system, there is a real conflict of interest in it, the NHS, being both the provider of healthcare services and consumer information. Independence is key. In this space, we are developing the leading trusted, evidence-based, independent source of health information for consumers, tailored to their information needs and delivered in their preferred formats. We have on our Editorail Board: Sir Iain Chalmers Former clinician and one of the founders of evidence based medicine (see above for definition) who spear-headed the creation of the Cochrane Collaboration.
