bLink (book+link) is a patented technology that promises to revolutionize the way we read books by linking printed with digital content. Books based on this technology allow the reader to interact with digital information by simply touching on ‘links’ which are printed onto its paper pages with conductive ink. By touching such links the reader may access webpages, documents, sounds or videos which are stored either on the Web, any device (computer, mobile, TV) via wireless or inside the book’s cover (e.g. music which you listen via headphones plugged onto the spine). The format, size and feel of such books are identical to ‘normal’ paper-books making the technology non-intrusive and distracting from the familiar holding/reading a book user experience. bLink‘s versatility allows for any content to be published in a simple way that is suitable for mass manufacturing and conforms largely to existing publishing practices. For instance, imagine: Children’s books with sounds or games, textbooks linked to animations, novels with musics, reference books that link to webpages, catalogues etc., etc. However, digital media (portable devices etc.) is offering seductive new possibilities to the user, especially in terms of their level of interactivity.
